Job summary

Automation Experts in Oxfordshire is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to take hands-on responsibility for full lifecycle control projects, from design through commissioning. You will design, program and test PLC systems and develop SCADA/HMI applications using Ignition and WinCC.

The role requires Siemens TIA Portal proficiency, autonomous working style, and strong customer-facing skills. Travel up to 25% is supported with a £6k uplift, and expenses are covered.

Controls & Automation Engineer

Location: Oxfordshire. Salary: £40‑65k + allowances, 5% pension, expenses. Working hours 7.30‑4.30 with early Friday finish. Travel up to 25% yields an additional £6k salary, with TOIL for weekends worked or travelled.

Role

• Hands‑on engineering across the full lifecycle of control system projects – design, development, testing, commissioning.
• Design, program, test and commission PLC control systems.
• Develop SCADA and HMI applications.
• Work with modern PLC and SCADA technologies such as Ignition and WinCC.
• Contribute to control strategies and system architecture.
• Troubleshoot and optimise existing automation systems.
• Support installation and commissioning activities.

Person

• Solid ability to write PLC & HMI from concept.
• Competent with Siemens TIA portal and SCADA software design.
• Ability to understand and modify electrical drawings.
• Previous site experience including commissioning.
• Capable of working autonomously.
• Excellent customer‑facing skills.

Office‑based position located in Oxfordshire, commutable from Oxford, Swindon, Newbury, Wantage, Chippenham and Cirencester. Standard working hours 7.30–4.30 with early Friday finish. All expenses are covered with an additional daily allowance when on‑site. 5% pension, 24 days holiday and annual profit share c£1‑3k dependent.
