Job summary

Babcock offers a Control Systems Engineer Degree Apprentice programme based at Devonport. Over four years you’ll study for a BEng in Applied Professional Engineering while contributing to national-security projects and gaining hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs and automated control systems.

You’ll undertake placements across engineering teams, complete a work-based project, and attend the University of Warwick in block-release sessions. Security clearance requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points.
• GCSEs in Maths, English and an additional STEM subject at grade C/4 or above.
• A level in Maths at Grade B.
• Security clearance restrictions may apply; BPSS/SC/NNPI clearance required.
• For this programme, sole UK national eligibility may apply.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance, improvement and optimisation of control systems across Devonport Royal Dockyard.
• Work with PLCs, HMIs, measurement instrumentation and industrial networks.
• Support complex fault finding, process improvement and problem solving.
• Assist in planning and delivery of projects and programmes.
• Design, installation, testing and commissioning of new or modified control systems.
