Job summary

Express Recruitment is partnering with a growing manufacturer of special purpose machinery near Derby to recruit a Control Systems Engineer. You will design, program and support Rockwell and Mitsubishi PLCs, and develop HMIs for diverse packaging machinery.

The role covers FAT/SAT testing, on-site commissioning, and documentation updates while collaborating with internal teams and customers to meet exacting specifications.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Automation & Controls or similar field.
• Proven experience in control system design, development and programming of Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLCs.
• Experience in programming and maintaining legacy Mitsubishi PLCs highly desirable.
• Experience in HMI control system design and implementation.
• Able to perform FATs and SATs and on-site commissioning.
• Experience with special purpose machinery and bespoke packaging machinery desirable.
• Ability to read, interpret and update technical diagrams and manuals.
• Strong relationship-building with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and program Rockwell and Mitsubishi PLCs, and implement HMIs.
• Provide technical support on legacy control systems and automation machinery.
• Carry out FATs, SATs and on-site commissioning projects.
• Keep documentation updated, including manuals, BOMs and specifications.
• Integrate modern controls software with existing legacy systems.
• Maintain and improve control across packaging machinery, conveyors and servo systems.
• Adhere to SOPs and respond to breakdowns with reboots and reconfigurations.
• Attend meetings with customers to support the sales department and understand requirements.

Express Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership with a rapidly growing manufacturer of special purpose machinery on behalf of a global client base. Due to continued investment in their R&D department, they are looking for a Control Systems Engineer with proven Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLC programming experience to join their team at their office located just on the outskirts of Derby.

The successful candidate will be heavily involved in all aspects of controls engineering, including programming, design, implementation and maintenance of PLCs and HMIs.

In return, they are offering a competitive salary of up to c£55,000 per annum D.O.E alongside a generous benefits packaged including a pension scheme, 25 days holiday + stats, non-contractual bonus scheme and death in service pay (x2 salary).

You will be contracted to 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Furthermore, you will benefit from flexible start/finish times, with an early 1pm finish most Fridays (work 9:30am-3:30pm every 1 in 3 Fridays as per rota).

• Previous experience working with special purpose machinery and bespoke packaging machines highly desirable
• Ability to read, interpret and update technical diagrams, user manuals and schematics
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal team members and external stakeholders

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, develop and program Rockwell and Mitsubishi PLCs, as well as design and implement HMI’s
• Provide technical support on legacy control systems and automation machinery
• Carry out FATs, SATs and on-site commissioning projects
• Ensure all documentation is updated regularly, particularly user manuals, BOMs and technical specification packs
• Perform integrations of modern controls software with existing legacy systems
• Maintain and improve control across a range of special purpose machinery and equipment, including servo control systems, rotary systems, conveyors and packaging machinery
• Adhere to all standard operational procedures (SOPs)
• Respond to technical breakdowns on machinery and perform full reboots and reconfigurations if required
• Attending meetings with customers to support the sales department and understand their stringent requirements
