Job summary

Holt Recruitment Group is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for an established engineering organisation specialising in maritime and defence technologies in the United Kingdom. You will design, develop and validate control systems for complex applications, from initial design through to system integration and trials.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, building models and simulations using Rockwell PLC toolchain, NI LabVIEW and MATLAB/Simulink, and contribute to hardware-in-the-loop

Qualifications

• Experience with Rockwell PLC toolchain, NI LabVIEW, and MATLAB/Simulink to develop and validate control systems.
• Ability to model complex system behaviour to support requirements and validation.
• Knowledge of HIL/SIL testing and lifecycle processes in engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and validate control systems for complex engineering applications.
• Produce system specifications, design documentation, calculations and engineering drawings.
• Develop models and simulations using Rockwell PLC, NI LabVIEW and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing and system integration.
• Collaborate with suppliers, customers and internal teams to resolve technical issues.
• Support testing, commissioning and trials on operational maritime platforms.

Job description

We are working with an established engineering organisation specialising in the development of advanced technology for the maritime and defence sectors.

They deliver complex systems and equipment for a range of naval and underwater applications, with a strong focus on engineering innovation, system integration and operational performance.

They are looking to appoint a Control Systems Engineer to support the design, development, modelling and testing of control systems for complex engineering applications.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to projects throughout the engineering lifecycle, from initial design and simulation through to system integration, testing and trials.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and validate control systems for complex engineering applications.
• Produce system specifications, design documentation, calculations and associated engineering drawings.
• Develop models and simulations using tools such as Rockwell PLC, NI LabVIEW and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing, system integration and verification activities.
• Investigate technical issues and develop effective solutions in collaboration with internal teams, suppliers and customers.
• Support system testing, commissioning and trials, including activities on operational maritime platforms.
• Provide engineering support to test, acceptance and production activities.
• Progress design activities in line with project requirements, engineering processes and programme milestones.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Rockwell PLC toolchain
  • NI LabVIEW
  • MATLAB/Simulink and supporting toolboxes
• Ability to develop complex models of system behaviour to support requirements definition and validation.
• Experience designing and implementing cost-effective engineering solutions, considering cost, safety and programme constraints.
• Good understanding of the engineering lifecycle and design processes.
• Knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.
• Experience developing, testing and evaluating theoretical and prototype designs.
• Ability to produce detailed technical specifications and outline designs.
• Experience resolving technical challenges with suppliers, subcontractors and customers.
