Copello is seeking a Lead Engineer in Cumbria to head the test and integration programme for submarine platform systems. The role requires guiding the test team, coordinating test planning and governance, and ensuring V&V activities comply with company procedures and programme requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering, CEng status (or working towards), strong automation in testing, and experience with PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell, GE) and WINCC OA within a regulated defence

Qualifikationen

• A degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
• Strong software testing experience including automation of unit, module/component integration and system-level testing.
• Experience in complex engineering environments (marine, nuclear, oil and gas, automotive or aerospace).
• Knowledge of IEEE 15288:2015 and IEEE standards; practical testing knowledge.
• Experience with electrical control systems; PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell, GE).
• Knowledge of WINCC OA.

The Opportunity

We are working on behalf of a leading defence and engineering organisation to recruit a Lead Engineer specialising in Test & Integration. This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering team supporting the development and delivery of advanced submarine platform systems.

The Role

Working closely with engineering leadership and delivery teams, you will oversee the technical direction of the test programme, ensuring that testing activities are effectively planned, managed and delivered throughout the engineering lifecycle.

• Technical leadership: Lead test engineers and specialist contractors in defining and delivering the agreed programme of test activities.
• Test planning and governance: Oversee test design, coordinate the review of test documentation and manage associated workflows.
• Verification & Validation: Ensure delivery teams carry out V&V activities in accordance with company policies, engineering procedures and programme requirements.
• Team development: Identify software testing training needs across the team, helping maintain an appropriately skilled and experienced testing workforce.
• Technical guidance: Provide specialist advice to internal departments, external organisations and relevant authorities on test documentation and issues relating to system design.
• Engineering assurance: Support the production of robust test evidence to demonstrate that systems are ready for platform testing, commissioning and eventual in-service operation.

The Team

You will join the Platform Management System Control & Indication team, which develops and designs software supporting both marine and control system functions across the platform.

The team operates across the Verification & Validation stages of the engineering lifecycle, carrying out testing within dedicated facilities and producing the evidence required to support the safe delivery, commissioning and ongoing operation of complex submarine systems.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging defence programmes while providing leadership and specialist expertise within a highly regulated engineering environment.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for this position, you should be able to demonstrate the following experience and qualifications:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards chartership.
• Strong software testing experience, including the automation of unit, module/component integration and system-level testing.
• Experience working within a complex engineering environment, such as marine, nuclear, oil and gas, automotive or aerospace.
• Knowledge and practical application of relevant engineering and testing standards, including IEEE (Apply online only) and IEEE 15288:2015.
• Experience with electrical control systems incorporating Siemens, Rockwell and GE Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Knowledge of WINCC OA
