Job summary

Armstrong Fluid Technology in the United Kingdom (Droitwich Spa) is looking for a skilled Control System Design Engineer to join our team on a permanent, on-site basis. You will manage design drawing revisions, update P&IDs, block diagrams and schematics, ensuring all technical files are accurately uploaded for traceability.

The role also oversees engineering change control, supports NPI initiatives, and participates in DFMA workshops to enable standardisation of products.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical/Control/Automation Engineering.
  • Experience in industrial control systems, control panel design, and automation solutions.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems, schematics, PLCs, HMIs.
  • Experience with engineering change control, BOM management, and manufacturing documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Design Authority for controls engineering projects.
  • Design and develop control panel hardware, electrical schematics, and control system software.
  • Produce and review Sequences of Operation, specifications, schematics, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Manage design revisions, engineering change control, and maintain accurate documentation and traceability.
  • Attend client and internal design review meetings, providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities as required.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), DFMA workshops, value engineering (VA/VE), and product standardisation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, project management, and customers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Control System Design Engineer

Reports to: EMEA Engineering Lead

Position: Permanent Placement - Full time onsite

Base Location: Droitwich Spa

Role Purpose

The Control System Design Engineer will manage engineering design drawing revision control and work closely with customers to update drawings, review P&ID, block diagrams, and schematics, ensuring all technical files are accurately uploaded to the database.

The role includes overseeing the engineering change control process and maintaining up-to-date documentation of all process modifications, changes, and improvements within the BOM structure and routing system to ensure full traceability.

The engineer will also develop and implement structured methodologies for New Product Introduction (NPI) to support a seamless transition from design to full-scale production and actively participate in DFMA workshops to support value engineering (VA/VE) and the standardisation of products.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Process Support
Production Support
  • Provide proactive technical support to production teams to ensure seamless execution of build plans, minimizing downtime and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to troubleshoot issues and develop robust, timely solutions.
  • Manage the Non‑Conformance Report (NCR) process to address defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, embedding best practices within production processes to uphold workplace safety and operational integrity.
  • Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of all process modifications, changes, and improvements within BOM structure and routing system, maintaining full traceability.
What We’re Looking For
Education
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in industrial control systems, control panel design, and automation solutions.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems, schematics, PLCs, HMIs, and associated technologies.
  • Experience with engineering change control, BOM management, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Permanent UK Residency or equivalent.
Skills
  • In‑depth expertise in manufacturing processes and materials, encompassing fabrication, welding, structural steel, building construction, and associated trade disciplines, with proven experience in modular build environments and compliance with standards such as EN BS 1090.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical) and other engineering tools.
  • Extensive experience with lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement methodologies in a low‑volume, high‑value manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in defining manufacturing and quality‑related standards, originating visual standards, SOPs, and work instructions, and delivering training to skilled personnel.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
