As a Controls Engineer, you will be directly involved in designing and implementing control solutions for world-class automated material handling systems. You will ensure consistent standards and drive continuous improvement within the design team.

You will leverage your expertise in controls engineering to provide software design for PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems, following through to testing and commissioning phases, while being aware of the project's cost, timescale, and requirements.

Tasks and Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver the assigned project scope and tasks by meeting or exceeding safety, quality, on-time delivery, and budget requirements.
  2. Produce PLC software and visualization systems.
  3. Emulate control systems in virtual environments and test PLC software.
  4. Interpret electrical schematics and design input information.
  5. Carry out controls engineering activities related to project design and implementation.
  6. Ensure systems designed and supplied are CE compliant with the Machinery Directive.
  7. Produce all associated documentation including design calculations, specifications, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, manuals, and test specifications.
  8. Commission control systems onsite and support system commissioning activities and end-user training.
  9. Maintain good relationships with internal and external customers by providing high-quality service.
  10. Promote continuous personal and business improvement to enhance project delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering is preferred; HNC/HND in Electrical/Mechatronics/Controls Engineering will also be considered.
  2. Experience designing control systems in Siemens S7 or TIA Portal.
  3. Proven hands-on experience in industrial automation.
  4. Good understanding of PLC development tools.
  5. Proficient with industrial networks such as Profinet, Profibus, ASi, EthernetIP, or similar.
  6. Experience with E-plan is desirable but not essential.
  7. Good understanding of electrical and electronic manuals and drawings.
  8. Knowledge of design standards such as the Machinery Directive.
  9. Understanding of distributed control systems.
  10. Experience with software testing and emulation.
  11. Full UK driving license required, as travel up to 60% may be necessary to customer sites in the UK and EMEA.
