We are committed to supporting the global effort for industrial decarbonisation and sustainable development and have set ambitious objectives to achieve our target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

What's the role?

We require, first and foremost, a legal contracts specialist who has had experience within the UK construction, energy, renewables or utilities sectors and is comfortable working with NEC, JCT and other model terms and conditions for projects in those sectors.

The successful candidate will lead on sales and purchasing contract reviews and negotiations working with the sales and commercial operations teams in our businesses together with other legal advice and support as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contract review. The review, analysis and negotiation of business contracts with customers, suppliers and other third parties. Our customers and suppliers are constituents of the construction, energy, renewables and utility sectors and we manufacture and supply both power products and undertake design and construction services to this group.
  • The role extends to supporting the business with generic legal matters from drafting contract templates to contract interpretation, input to bids and tenders, settlement of project disputes, debt recovery through to soft intellectual property e.g. copyright protection and insurance matters.
  • In addition to working in a collaborative and collegiate fashion across the business, with key stakeholders such as compliance, finance, health and safety, sales, tendering and project management the role will form part of the BRUSH Group Legal Department and report into the Group Legal Director. They will be involved in department projects and discussions of a legal nature.
What are we looking for:
Qualifications
  • Either (i) A UK qualified solicitor having at least 3 years PQE who has worked with construction, energy, renewables and/or utilities clients – preferable in an in-house role; or
  • (ii) A commercial contracts specialist from industry who has rounded legal skills and experience set within the context of construction, energy, renewables or utilities sectors.
Skills
  • The breadth of this new role demands a proactive person with a ‘can do’ attitude who is resilient and uses their initiative and common sense. They will need to be good at influencing and relationship building and a ‘detail’ person.
Knowledge
  • In order to be successful in this position you will require a good technical knowledge of contract law, drafting, negotiation as well as be commercially astute.
  • NEC, JCT standard forms and typical modifications for the construction, energy, renewables and utilities industries.
  • Any additional legal or compliance experience would be beneficial in this role.
Experience
  • Relevant experience of working in a commercial/construction/energy/renewables/utilities department in private practice or in-house. The perfect applicant might have a ‘blended’ experience of both private practice and in-house contracts experience within these sectors.
