Job summary

Thorn Baker Construction is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to lead a portfolio of high-end fit-out projects across Hertfordshire and London. You will oversee pre-construction through to completion, manage project teams, and ensure delivery on time, within budget and to exacting standards.

Key responsibilities include leading Project and Site Managers, maintaining client relationships, reviewing profitability, and promoting health and safety across sites.

• Proven experience as a Contracts Manager in the fit-out sector.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple construction and fit-out projects simultaneously.
• Lead project teams to deliver programmes safely, on time, and within budget.
• Monitor project performance, costs, risks, and resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Maintain strong client relationships and act as a key point of contact.
• Review project profitability and support commercial objectives.
• Conduct regular site visits and project reviews.
• Support procurement, planning, and delivery strategies.
• Mentor and develop project management and site teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a results-driven construction professional who thrives on managing multiple projects, leading operational teams, and ensuring exceptional standards of delivery and client satisfaction.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you will oversee a portfolio of projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, profitably, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

You will provide leadership to Project Managers, Site Managers, and delivery teams, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within the fit out sector.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Excellent commercial and contractual awareness.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
• Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• Construction-related qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent).
• SMSTS qualification.
• Experience delivering high end retail, leisure & residential projects.
• Knowledge of JCT contracts.
