Job summary

Staffline is recruiting a Contract Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for the Reading area. The role offers £36–38 per hour (Limited Company outside IR35) on a contract basis of 2 months initially, with potential to extend.

Responsibilities include planned and reactive maintenance on conveyors, motors and drives within a busy manufacturing environment. You will read engineering drawings, fault-diagnose issues, and support modification projects while upholding safety and engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience in a process production or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work independently on maintenance or modification projects.

• Carry out maintenance of mechanical fittings to support production and maintenance activities.
• Perform planned and reactive maintenance across production machinery, including conveyors, motors and drives.
• Support the plant and automated systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics and handling equipment.
• Attend to breakdowns promptly, delivering fast, safe, and effective mechanical repairs.
• Assist in modification and improvement projects on process lines and production equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring reliability and performance targets are achieved.
• Maintain safe working practices and uphold engineering standards across all tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements - Contract Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

• Time-served apprentice or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Previous experience in a process production or manufacturing environment – ideally with conveyors, motors, drives, etc
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work independently on maintenance or modification projects
• A proactive, problem‑solving approach and commitment to continuous improvement
• Computer‑literate with a good understanding of maintenance reporting systems
