Ian Williams Ltd is expanding its Cheltenham-based Capital team and seeking a Contracts Manager to deliver Capital (Planned works/Refurbishment) contracts in Cheltenham and Stroud. You will lead direct labour, recruit and onboard new members, and ensure health and safety are prioritised on all sites.

You will build relationships across commercial and operations, drive on-time delivery, manage resources, and provide detailed site reporting with corrective actions where needed.

Qualifications

• Health and safety management with system controls.
• Strong planning and organisation to deliver workstreams on time and within budget.
• Experience managing direct labour and developing a high performing team.
• Customer-centric delivery aligned with client expectations.
• SMSTS qualification.
• NVQ6 in Construction Site Management or willingness to work towards it.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational delivery of Capital (Planned works/Refurbishment) contracts in Cheltenham and Stroud.
• Instill ownership and responsibility in your teams; ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Lead by example; motivate, incentivise, and develop apprentices and staff.
• Recruitment, onboarding and induction of new team members.
• Maintain Health and Safety as a priority across sites and activities.
• Ensure resources, subcontractors, plant and materials are available as planned.
• Build strong internal and external relationships to support delivery.
• Provide accurate site reporting and implement corrective actions.
• Manage your time effectively to keep procedures and reports current.

The Contracts Manager role

• Responsible for leading the operational delivery of a variety of Capital (Planned works/ Refurbishment) contracts in Cheltenham and Stroud.
• Instilling ownership and responsibility in your teams, you lead and support the successful delivery of works, on time and to budget.
• With a direct labour team, you lead by example, motivating, incentivising, and developing individuals. This includes Apprentices, as we believe in delivering our work directly, and developing from within.
• Take ownership of recruitment, onboarding, and induction of new members.
• Health and Safety measures will be paramount to you, and you'll ensure they are in place and monitored.
• Ensure resources, including subcontractors, plant, and materials are available to deliver the work as planned
• Building relationships both internally and externally, we encourage commercial and operational teams to work closely together to ensure the successful delivery of a contract.
• Sense check site reporting, produce accurate reporting, and implement corrective actions.
• Be accountable and manage your own time, allowing you to maintain productivity and ensure procedures and reports are up to date.

What will I bring to the Contracts Manager role

• Experience in producing high standards of Health and Safety management through strong system controls and leadership by example
• Strong planning and organising skills to make workstreams are successful in delivery, resource and quality, while understanding cost and risk management
• Demonstrable experience in managing direct labour, you invest in your team and understand individuals' capabilities, to maximise their potential, develop them and produce a high performing team
• Customer centric. Understands customers' needs and consistently delivers in line with their expectations
• An SMSTS qualification with a sound working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
• An NVQ qualification level 6 (or equivalent) in Construction Site Management or a willingness to work towards it, is desirable.
