Job summary

Gap Technical is partnering with a leading national automation business in Bristol to recruit an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer on a contract basis. The role focuses on reducing downtime, improving machine reliability, and supporting production with planned and reactive maintenance in a busy plant.

You will diagnose faults, carry out overhauls, provide on‑the‑job training, calibrate settings, and work on 4on4off days/nights.

Qualifications

• Multi-skilled maintenance experience in production environments.
• Electrical bias with fault diagnosis and repairs.
• Experience with planned maintenance and overhauls.
• Apprentice trained with relevant qualification.
• Able to work across days/nights and maintain high equipment availability.

Responsibilities

• Identify and rectify root causes of machinery faults.
• Undertake planned maintenance, breakdown response, and annual overhauls.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on machinery and processes.
• Maintain and calibrate critical machine settings to improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with production teams to plan proactive maintenance.
• Offer support across teams to meet operational demands.
• Drive initiatives to reduce downtime and optimise plant performance.

Performance Objectives

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer - Electrically Biased, you will play a vital role in ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime across all production equipment. Drawing on your technical experience and problem‑solving abilities, you will:

• Identify and rectify root causes of machinery faults, supporting both day‑to‑day maintenance and long‑term improvements.
• Undertake planned maintenance, breakdown response, and annual overhauls to ensure high equipment availability and reliability.
• Provide training and guidance to new and existing staff on machinery and operational processes.
• Maintain and calibrate critical machine settings to support improved efficiency and product quality.
• Collaborate with production teams to plan and execute proactive maintenance strategies.
• Offer support and cover across teams as needed to meet operational demands.
• Drive initiatives to improve engineering practices, reduce downtime, and optimise plant performance.

Qualifications and Experience

Handling and Automation environment (this would be highly desirable).
