Job summary

Howden is seeking a Consulting Actuary to join our Actuarial Consulting team in the United Kingdom. You will develop a portfolio of appointments as you progress towards Scheme or Corporate Actuary roles, with potential Team Leader responsibilities alongside Partners.

You will deliver pragmatic pension insights, manage client relationships, participate in pitches, and contribute to broader Howden services. Clear career progression opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Fellowship Actuarial Qualifications FIA / FAA or equivalent.
• DB Pension experience is essential.
• Demonstrated experience leading a team and excellent people management skills.
• Project management and time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills and good networking skills.
• Ability to take forward new ideas.

Responsibilities

• Client Consulting: act as the main contact, providing advice for a range of clients.
• Assist Partners in managing client relationships and solving issues.
• Attend client meetings and identify opportunities to help clients and report new initiatives.
• Review draft client reports and advice.
• Apply actuarial methods to pensions and risk assessment.
• Check work of team members for accuracy and compliance with rules and legislation.
• Identify opportunities for new business and assist in tenders, including pitches.
• Lead a client team, manage workload and participate in Firm-wide Actuarial Team Leader meetings.
• Maintain knowledge of current pensions issues and advise clients on developments.
• Ensure timely delivery and high-quality work within agreed timescales.
• Support corporate accounting appointments with broader Howden services when leading.
• Peer review colleagues' work where appropriate.
