Consultant Rheumatologist

The closing date is 22 May 2025

We are seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist. The appointee will work with Consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive service for residents across West Sussex. The Rheumatology department is part of the MSK Directorate including Trauma and Orthopaedics and Pain Management. The post will be based predominantly at Worthing Hospital, with some sessions at other Trust locations. This post is available on a 10 programmed activities (PAs) basis. The role offers an excellent opportunity for professional development and service contribution.

Main duties of the job
  1. Outpatient clinics: assessment of new patients, follow-up reviews, joint injections, procedures, and reviews of patients seen by specialists and CNSs.
  2. Ward referrals and DCC duties: review of inpatients with rheumatic complaints and participation in weekly radiology MDTs.
  3. Administrative duties: dictation and signing of clinic letters, reports, and referral letters; prescribing biologics, osteoporosis, DMARDs; medical reports.
  4. Advice services: providing telephone and email advice to GPs and other health professionals.
  5. Clinical audit: developing audit proposals, collecting data, presenting findings, and participating in regional/national audits.
  6. Supervision: clinical and educational supervision of CNSs and assistants.
  7. Governance and Education: involvement in Trust governance, supporting medical student education, with opportunities for research and managerial interests. Strong links exist with KSS Deanery and Brighton & Sussex Medical School.

Experience/Qualifications
  • Full and specialist GMC registration or eligibility within six months of interview. UK-trained candidates must have CCT in Rheumatology or be within six months of obtaining it at interview. Non-UK trained candidates must provide evidence of equivalent qualifications, confirmed by GMC by the AAC date.
  • Higher Degree.
