Job description

We are looking to appoint one part time, 6PA, substantive Consultant Rheumatologist to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Rheumatology Service. The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment. To minimise travel between sites the job plan has been designed to ensure that wherever possible the successful candidate will be based at one site each day.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the new consultant contract. We are looking to continue our work as a Specialised Rheumatology centre.

Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Rheumatology Specialist Exam

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the specialty of Rheumatology
  • Possess broad clinical experience general Rheumatology

Teaching and training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.
  • Experience of teaching/training other clinical professionals.

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
  • Experience of appraisal or equivalent overseas arrangements.
  • Ability to organise own learning and time.
  • Commitment to life-long learning

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
  • Membership of appropriate specialist societies.

Management and Administration

Essential

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
  • Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.
  • Ability to lead a team and understanding of leadership skills.
  • Able to prioritise and organise work efficiently.

Desirable

  • Experience of leadership and change management e.g introduction of a service development, new system of working.

Clinical governance and audit

Essential

  • Experience in performing clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.

  • Good oral and written communication skills
