Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS is seeking an experienced plastic surgeon specialising in soft tissue sarcoma and reconstructive microsurgery. The post requires FRCS (Plast) or equivalent and fellowship in soft tissue sarcoma surgery, with eligibility for the Specialist Register.

Responsibilities

• Lead on complex plastics cases with emphasis on sarcoma reconstruction.
• Chair Sarcoma MDTs and contribute to multidisciplinary decision making.
• Maintain and document logbook evidence of major resections as first operator.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and health professionals.

Professional Registration

Essential criteria

• Full GMC registration & current License to Practice
• Currently on or eligible to be included on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery
• CCT / Portfolio Pathway registration expected within 6 months of interview date

Qualifications

• Dedicated fellowship in soft tissue sarcoma surgery
• Dedicated fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery

Desirable criteria

• Higher professional degree

Skills and Expereince

Essential criteria

• Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description
• Experience of chairing Sarcoma MDTs
• Documented logbook evidence of more than 30 soft tissue sarcoma resections as first operator
• Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals

Desirable criteria

• Documented logbook evidence of more than 30 microvascular reconstructions as first operator
• Documented logbook evidence of joint working with other surgical specialties for oncological reconstruction e.g. thoracic, head & neck, colorectal, neurosurgery
• Experience of orthoplastic reconstruction in a major trauma centre.

Other

Essential criteria

• Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
• Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit
• Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
• Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen's Medical Centre campus

Desirable criteria

• Experience in clinical guideline development
• Trained Educational & Clinical Supervisor
