An established health organization in North Wales is seeking dedicated Acute Physicians to enhance their Acute Medicine Service. These are exciting new posts supporting the expansion of the Acute Medicine Service in the Emergency Quadrant (EQ) at Glan Clwyd Hospital. The EQ consists of the Emergency Department (ED), Acute Medical Admissions Unit (AMU), Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit, and Acute Frailty Unit.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide vision and develop acute medical services in central North Wales, one of the most beautiful areas in the country.
The post holders will join a team of 4 Acute Physicians, 15 General Physicians with specialty interests, and 8 cardiologists providing secondary and tertiary cardiology services attached to the North Wales Cardiac Centre on the Glan Clwyd site.
The posts are open to those interested in full-time or part-time work, with flexibility within acute medicine subspecialties such as SDEC (Ambulatory medicine), acute intake, or short-stay medicine, and can accommodate other subspecialty interests including renal, diabetes, gastroenterology, geriatrics/frailty/stroke, and respiratory medicine.
The vision of the acute medicine team at YGC is to provide comprehensive acute medical services, interfacing with specialty and GIM services. The successful applicant will support the three key areas of acute medicine at consultant level.
The acute medical intake team manages 35-50 patients daily. We aim to expand senior support to the SDEC unit to facilitate more patients being managed on an ambulatory basis. The physician will see 8-12 patients on post-take ward rounds, and 6-10 patients when covering SDEC or short-stay wards. Referrals come from primary care, the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAST), and ED triage/START.
Close teamwork with ED, Medicine, and Surgery facilitates early decision-making and efficient patient management. The radiology department supports rapid investigations.
