Are you looking for the next step on your career ladder or seeking to gain more experience as a Consultant? If you are interested in a full-time or maximum part-time position as a Consultant in Acute Medicine, this may be be the perfect opportunity.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and further expand our dynamic and well-respected Acute Medicine team here at Barnsley Hospital.

The successful applicant(s) will join a team of ten consultants. Each member demonstrates clinical excellence and brings additional skills including research, teaching, education, and management. Most importantly, the team works collaboratively.

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive post supporting the expansion of services to meet activity and service demands as we move towards a 12-hour / 7-day AIM cover model. It includes daytime work on the AMU, Short Stay Unit (SSU), and Medical SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care).

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading AMUs in the region, offering exceptional support for professional activities and sub-specialty interests.

Candidates unable to work full-time for personal reasons will be considered. If appointed, job content modifications will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

The current staffing includes 10 Consultants, 2 SAS doctors, 1 ST4-7, a mixture of CT3-6, CT1/GP VTS/F2 or F1 doctors, and 6 full-time Physician Associates.

The hospital is an associate teaching hospital of the University of Sheffield, and the Emergency Department is actively involved in undergraduate medical education. Candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility for entry.

Skills and Abilities

• Willingness and ability to fulfill the key elements of the job description, including the required shift pattern.
• Possession of the clinical skills necessary for acute medicine and general internal medicine.
• Ability to handle the demands of a DGH-based Consultant role.
• Leadership and service development skills.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of staff.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience

• Management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.
• Current ALS certificate or equivalent.
• Experience in a specialist interest that complements other staff's expertise.

Management

• Effective and constructive collaboration with management.
• Formal management training evidence.

Qualifications

• MRCP or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration with proven skills and recent experience in acute medicine OR
• Full GMC registration and within 12 months of specialist registration in Acute Medicine or GIM, with evidence of recent experience or application via GMC CESR.
