Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic individual to join our supportive and dynamic Paediatric team, committed to delivering excellent patient care. Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Oncology.

The successful candidate will join a team of paediatricians and neonatologists providing Child Health services to a local population of approximately 300,000 children. The Trust is a designated POSCU level 1 centre (Enhanced Level A for Autumn 2026), with over 35 new cancer patients annually.

The consultant medical team operates across Queen's Hospital, Romford, and King George Hospital, Ilford, supporting junior medical staff in delivering patient care across all settings.

Main duties of the job

Job plan requirements include four main areas:

  1. 3 hot weeks per 24 (Queen's or KGH)
  2. Hot days - Children's ED, CYPAU, and Hot clinics (5 days over 8 weeks)
  3. 10 paediatric clinics annually (excluding ward weeks)
  4. On-call duties (Category A): 1 in 7 residents until 7 pm (Monday to Friday) and from 8:30 am to 1 pm on weekends and Bank Holidays (times under review)

Clinical responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing acute admissions of children with malignancies
  • Elective reviews in Daycare ward
  • Active treatment and chemotherapy clinics
  • Urgent cancer referrals review
  • Long-term follow-up clinics
  • Electronic chemotherapy prescriptions and approvals
  • Participation in Oncology trials
  • Attending local and tertiary MDT meetings
  • Providing oncology education and training for staff
  • Conducting annual Febrile Neutropenia audits
  • Supporting staff with oncology-related queries
  • Supporting service development as POSCU lead
