The NHS is seeking a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join a dynamic team at Stockport. The role involves providing comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological services, participating in on-call duties, and contributing to the clinical governance of the department. The Obstetrics & Gynaecology department is focused on elective recovery and increasing our team of Consultants providing both Obstetric and Gynaecology care. This appointment will continue provision of Obstetric on call, acute gynaecology daytime cover, one stop clinics and delivery suite sessions.
The department is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, housed in a purpose-built Maternity Unit building over four floors providing comprehensive Women's health services. Along with the busy Maternity Unit, the department hosts a regional endometriosis centre, the South East sector Pelvic floor MDT with Urogynaecology services, and one of the busiest ambulatory gynaecology services in the North West.
You will be joining a dynamic, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking team of consultants. This job will be split across both the Obstetrics and Gynaecology services.
The successful applicant will be a Generalist, playing a key role in the provision of general Obstetric and Gynaecology services, including acute gynaecology cover (CEPOD theatre, gynaecology SDEC), elective caesarean section lists, gynaecology outpatient clinics, one-stop hysteroscopy clinics, and labour ward. They will provide labour ward cover to maintain the consultant-delivered service, participating in a 1:10 weekday and 1:8 weekend on-call rota with prospective cover.

The role involves providing general Obstetric and Gynaecology services, including acute gynaecology cover, elective caesarean sections, outpatient clinics, hysteroscopy clinics, and labour ward coverage. The appointee will undertake specific roles as per the job plan, contribute to the day-to-day running of the maternity unit, and participate in teaching and clinical governance activities.
Additional responsibilities include ward rounds, administrative duties, liaising with GPs and other healthcare professionals, developing clinical guidelines, and maintaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and expects all staff to promote welfare and comply with policies. An enhanced DBS check (£54.50) and annual subscription (£16) to the DBS update service are required.
This post requires an enhanced DBS check at £54.50, deducted from the first salary, and membership of the DBS update service (£16 annually).
Salary range: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, pro-rata.
