Job summary

Barking Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join our multidisciplinary team in Romford. The post covers 10 programmed activities with participation in on-call duties, across two acute hospital sites.

The successful candidate will lead microbiology services, contribute to infection prevention, and drive service development in a supportive, forward-thinking Trust environment.

Qualifications

• CCT or equivalent in Medical Microbiology & Virology required.
• FRCPath essential or desirable depending on candidate.
• MSc in Medical Microbiology or equivalent research-focused qualification.
• MRCP advantageous for broader infectious diseases knowledge.
• Full GMC registration with unrestricted license to practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver Consultant Medical Microbiology services across two acute sites.
• Participate in on-call rota and clinical governance activities.
• Drive service development and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Provide leadership in infection prevention and control initiatives.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a Consultant Medical Microbiologist (Consultant Microbiologist or joint Consultant Microbiologist/Infectious Diseases) or be eligible for registration on the specialist register (CCT/CESR) within six months of interview at Barking Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust.

BHRUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join our team of 5 friendly, highly motivated, clinically orientated Microbiology colleagues in our well-established multidisciplinary department. This is a new post .

The post attracts 10 programmed activities and the appointee will be expected to participate in the on-call duties which are currently a one -in -five rota (1:6 with this post).

Consultant offices are based on site at Queen’s Hospital but clinical responsibilities mean rotating through both acute sites of Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital where we have on-site laboratories and appointees will be expected to take an active interest in these facilities.
