The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Infection Science - Bacteriology) at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. This permanent Band 6 role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, across a 24/7 shift pattern.

You will be part of a team of bacteriology staff delivering diagnostic services to NHS trusts and wider providers, with HCPC registration, IBMS Specialist Diploma and CPD required.

Qualifications

  • HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with UK registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience.
  • Experience with complex, specialist equipment.
  • Experience in an NHS Lab or acute trust.
  • Experience working in a busy bacteriology laboratory.

Responsibilities

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Specialist BMS to join our team. You must be a strong team player who has a positive attitude to change. You must have excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful applicant will work as part of a team of virology and bacteriology staff based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site.

The Infection Science Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and clinical services for two acute Hospitals, local GUM clinics and a wide range of community based health providers.

We also provide laboratory services to GPs and wider service users in the surrounding area. The Bacteriology department is equipped with Vitek2, UF-5000i, MS PRIME, BACT/ALERT VIRTUO, BDMax and WASPLab. The hours of work for this post will be 37.5 hours per week over a 24/7 period. Applicants will be expected to have significant bacteriology experience preferably in an NHS Lab.

  • Biomedical Science Degree
