Job summary

Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust invites applications for a Consultant Medical Microbiologist. The role covers both Queen’s Hospital Romford and King George Hospital, with leadership in microbiology and infection services across sites.

The appoinment will support a multidisciplinary team in a high-volume lab environment and will involve on-call duties as part of the 1:5 rota. The Trust values innovation, continuous learning, and staff development.

• Full GMC registration with unrestricted license to practice.
• CCT or equivalent in Medical Microbiology & Virology, Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.
• FRCPath and MSc in Medical Microbiology.

• Lead and shape infection services within a two-site NHS Trust.
• Provide consultant microbiology and infectious diseases expert advice.
• Participate in on-call rota and service development.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a Consultant Medical Microbiologist (Consultant Microbiologist or joint Consultant Microbiologist/Infectious Diseases) or be eligible for registration on the specialist register (CCT/CESR) within six months of interview at Barking Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust.

BHRUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Medical Microbiologist to join our team of 5 friendly, highly motivated, clinically orientated Microbiology colleagues in our well-established multidisciplinary department. This is a new post .

The post attracts 10 programmed activities and the appointee will be expected to participate in the on-call duties which are currently a one -in -five rota (1:6 with this post).

Consultant offices are based on site at Queen’s Hospital but clinical responsibilities mean rotating through both acute sites of Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital where we have on-site laboratories and appointees will be expected to take an active interest in these facilities.
