Job description

The successful candidate will join an existing team of 13 consultants (11.3 WTE) and 5 Advanced Nurse Practitioners in providing both in-patient and out-patient Respiratory care. This is a 10 PA post, with potential training or participation in specialty clinical activities across MFT for suitable candidates. The role encourages active research involvement, and candidates must be eligible for GMC registration, as MFT cannot support GMC sponsorship for permanent vacancies.

Main duties of the job:

  1. Provide clinical leadership in In-patient Medicine, supervising junior medical staff and trainees as required.
  2. Contribute to education and work towards accreditation as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor.
  3. Participate in departmental audit and clinical governance activities.
  4. Provide cross-cover for annual/study leave and short-term sickness for other consultants, as agreed.
  5. Perform other duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the service, evolving with the service pattern.
  6. Engage in administrative and management roles within the department.

Person Specification:

Qualifications (Essential):

  • GMC Registration MRCP or equivalent, with entry in the GMC.
  • Specialist Register for GIM and Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus via CCT (proposed CCT within 6 months of interview) or CESR.

Clinical Experience (Essential):

  • Skills in Internal Medicine equivalent to Higher Speciality Training in GIM and Diabetes.
  • Skills in Diabetes management equivalent to Higher Speciality Training.

Desirable:

  • Experience in acute take at consultant level in the UK, including ICU experience.

Management and Administration (Essential):

  • Experience in clinical audit and patient safety initiatives.

Desirable:

  • Experience in service improvement.

Teaching Experience (Essential):

  • Experience teaching medical and non-medical staff.

Other Attributes (Essential):

  • Good organizational skills, flexibility, and experience working in cross-boundary clinical teams with strong communication and management skills.

Desirable:

  • Presentational skills.
