A prestigious NHS Trust seeks a Consultant in Histopathology for a 12-month position. Candidates can be generalists or subspecialists, with appropriate GMC Registration required. We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Histopathology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Histopathology department.
The histopathology department is located in a purpose-built facility on the main trust site, supporting MDTs and including a district public mortuary. The department participates in weekly MDTs with teams specializing in Breast, Colorectal, Respiratory, Urological, Dermatological, and Haematology cancers, along with biweekly meetings for Gynaecological and Thyroid cancers, and monthly liver and IBD review meetings. Facilities include microscopes and audio-visual equipment, with participation encouraged in clinico-pathological meetings and EQA schemes.
The department operates a pull system of case allocation and is sub-specialized, with consultants reporting on 2-3 specialties. Candidates may be generalists or subspecialists, with interests in skin, GIT, Respiratory, Gynae, Non-Gynae cytology (including thyroid and Urology) being advantageous. The department performs coronial autopsies in a recently refurbished, UKAS-accredited mortuary. Approximately six trainees are posted annually, supported by a BMS with a Diploma of expert practice in Histological Dissection and another starting this autumn.
