Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Part of the team responsible for the delivery of acute gastroenterology services, working alongside 4 registrars, 1 CMT, and 4 FY doctors.

Providing outpatient services for patients with gastroenterological disorders, based on clinic templates aligned with Royal College guidelines (4 new patients and 8 follow-ups).

Managing inpatient services for patients with gastroenterological disorders, with particular reference to hepatology patients.

Inpatient management of some allocated general medical patients.

Developing liaison with other centers such as the Royal Free and Hammersmith Hospital.

Job description pending Royal College approval.

Registration

Essential criteria

• GMC registered Medical Practitioner with GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of CCT.

Desirable criteria

• MD, PhD, or equivalent.

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria

• Broad-based training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopic investigation.
• Broad-based general professional training in general medicine.

Desirable criteria

• ERCP skills.

Management and Audit

Essential criteria

• Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications.
• Leadership skills.

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of service audit, design, or change management.

Research/publications

Essential criteria
