Job overview

We are delighted to invite applications for a 3 PA Locum Consultant General Paediatrician to join the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED).
MCCAED is situated within the CAMHS Clinical Academic Group of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, the most comprehensive mental health service for children and young people in the country. This is the sole Consultant Paediatrician Post within the service.

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for a Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in child and adolescent eating disorders. The successful candidate will primarily support the work of the ARFID service within MCCAED and also provide paediatric consultation and advice across the wider eating disorder service. In addition to extensive opportunities to develop expertise in this area, there are also excellent opportunities for quality improvement activities, research, teaching and training.

Working for our organisation

The post will be located on the Maudsley site, location of our Trust headquarters, which is less than 5 minutes from Denmark Hill train station (zone 2). In the next few months our clinic will be moving from the Michael Rutter Centre to a larger new purpose-built clinic with state-of-the-art facilities on the same site called the Pears Maudsley Centre.

In this role you will be able to work Monday to Friday in the time frames from 8am to 6pm, giving you the very best of good work life balance. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder will have the following key areas of responsibility:
• Provide general paediatric assessment, advice and consultation for patients under the ARFID service with a range of comorbid conditions.
• Support the development of multi-disciplinary treatment plans for each patient
• Liaise with wider paediatric services regarding the care of children and adolescents in the ARFID service.
• Liaise with other health professionals and social care teams as necessary to support appropriate care for patients.
• Support and advise colleagues regarding the paediatric care of children and adolescents with ARFID
• Provide paediatric consultation and advice to the wider eating disorder service i.e. Outpatient Eating Disorder Service, START and Intensive Therapy service

Person specification
Qualifications
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC and Name on Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT date, and is expected to achieve a CCT
  • Other higher degree or diploma e.g. MD
Training and Experience
  • Wide experience in all aspects of general paediatrics, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
  • Specialist training in general paediatrics Evidenced Level 3 safeguarding training
  • Evidence of mental health training, or paediatric nutrition or paediatric endocrinology
Administration
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of general paediatric services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management and Leadership
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Previous experience of service development and managing change in the workplace
  • Management course and/or qualification
Audit, research and publications
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
  • Understanding of clinical research
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of child health
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports
