Job Description

NHS Lothian is seeking a qualified Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry for a full-time, permanent position based at St John's Hospital. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant, supportive, and rapidly developing service, with mentorship and support to advance your career to the highest level.

The core responsibilities include providing general adult psychiatry services to a catchment population within a multidisciplinary team. There is also potential for professional development in areas such as medical education, research, leadership, and quality improvement activities.

The position is expected to involve an initial maximum 8/2 PA split between direct clinical care and supporting wider professional activities, adaptable to individual needs and service requirements. Opportunities for gaining experience across NHS Lothian and Edinburgh are available and encouraged.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Full GMC Registration and a license to practice
• Eligibility for GMC Specialist Register or evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT
• UK-trained doctors should have evidence of higher specialist training or be within 6 months of confirmed entry
• Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training
