We are a diverse group of Emergency Consultants with many special interests and new colleagues are actively supported to develop or expand their area of specialist interest through personalised, flexible job plans. These posts form part of the expansion of our consultant workforce, with the aim of moving towards overnight cover. Successful applicants will join a team of over 30 ED Consultants, working a 24‑week whole time equivalent rota to provide senior medical staff presence on site from 08:00 to 00:00, including weekend working on a one‑in‑eight basis. The team works equally across 2 sites, with Pinderfields Hospital being our Major Emergency Department and designated Major Trauma Unit. Both Dewsbury and Pinderfields have 24/7 separate dedicated children’s EDs.
Main duties of the job
- Providing high quality care to patients attending the Emergency Department
- Ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making supporting the sustained delivery of the Emergency Care Standard
- Providing clinical leadership and supervision to other clinicians working within the Emergency Dept.
- Participating in the development of the Trust’s Emergency Medicine service including QIPS, protocols and guidelines
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with clinicians both internally and externally
- Providing and delivering educational opportunities at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- New consultant positions typically will take part in on‑call duties which are currently shared within the team on a 24‑week rolling rota with 3:24 weekend working, category A basis
- Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space, secretarial support, and networked computer facilities are provided
- Supporting professional activities with 1.5 SPA included in the core 10 PA timetable (prorated). Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service, such as teaching, educational supervision or departmental leadership roles.

Essential person specification requirements
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine or recognised within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent)
- Medical Degree from recognised medical school
- FRCEM
- Awarded a CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent or within 6 months of entry to the GMC Specialist Register
- Provider status in ATLS/ALS and APLS (or EPLS)
- Royal College of Emergency Medicine Level 1 Ultrasound competency
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving
- Good time management
- Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
- Clear and effective communication skills with staff and patients
- Caring and compassionate
- Flexible & adaptable
- Willingness to learn all aspects of hospital internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies

Qualifications
- Medical Degree from recognised medical school
- FRCEM
- Awarded a CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent or within 6 months of entry to the GMC Specialist Register
- Provider status in ATLS/ALS and APLS (or EPLS)
- Royal College of Emergency Medicine Level 1 Ultrasound competency
Desirable Qualifications
- Instructor status in any ATLS/ALS /APLS (or EPLS)
- Dual accreditation in ITU/PHEM
Experience
- Computer literate
- Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work
