Post: 1.0 WTE CONSULTANT CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST
Base: Skye House Regional Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Service
This role involves delivering psychiatric services to young people up to 18 years old in a regional inpatient setting. The service is a centre of excellence, offering opportunities for collaboration across multiple health boards and with other inpatient services in Scotland. The post holder will join an experienced team and have responsibilities as Responsible Medical Officer, providing inpatient care and medical leadership.
Applicants must have full GMC registration and a license to practice. UK-trained candidates should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and be on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible for registration (CESR). Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Experience in tier 3 or 4 child and adolescent psychiatry services is essential. Registration as an Approved Medical Practitioner under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act (2003) is required or must be achieved as a condition of employment.
Desirable but not essential are experience in Paediatrics, General Practice, or other Medical Specialties, along with CAMHS experience. The role involves caring for young people aged 12-17 with complex psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders, psychosis, EUPD, depression, and co-morbid conditions. The team follows evidence-based pathways and the principles of the Mental Health Act Scotland, prioritizing least restrictive care.
There is a large, supportive team of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, with opportunities for research, teaching, CPD, and collaboration with paediatric and adult psychiatry colleagues within NHSGGC.
