Job description

I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

Our client has responsibility for the health of over 500,000 people and is one of the largest providers of integrated healthcare in the UK. With a budget of over £1 billion and employing 17,000 people, the Health Board provides acute, tertiary, intermediate, mental health, community, and primary care services to people in Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea, and beyond.

Our clients have over 70 Consultant Anaesthetists delivering excellent clinical services in a range of specialties including regional and tertiary services. These posts will support the expansion of current services, including the development of a new Thoracic Centre for South Wales, Post Anaesthetic Care Units to facilitate theatre redesign and modernization, and the COVID recovery programme. The department offers varied opportunities to advance careers in Anaesthetics, including the EMRTS air ambulance service hosted by Swansea Bay, perioperative medicine, the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastics, and Cardiothoracic tertiary services. Research and teaching are fundamental, with close links to Swansea University Medical School, ranked 4th in the UK.

The appointee will undertake duties such as providing clinical services, working with colleagues to prevent, diagnose, and treat illnesses, and ensuring patient well-being through proper delegation and staff training. Responsibilities also include ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of services in line with the Health Board’s values, policies, and medium-term plan (IMTP). The role offers opportunities for teaching and training medical undergraduates, as well as clinical governance and audit duties.
