Job summary

Wye Valley NHS Trust seeks a permanent Consultant in Anaesthesia to lead daytime theatre-based anaesthesia across acute services. The role includes participation in obstetrics, ECT, cardioversion and thoracoscopy as needed, with a 1:12 on-call rota for critical care, theatres, and maternity.

The appointee will engage in departmental, academic and audit activities, and contribute to medical education while aligning with governance and infection control policies.

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attainment at day of interview.

Responsibilities

  • Attend regular departmental, academic and audit meetings.
  • Engage in Continuing Medical Education per Royal College guidelines and IBTICM as appropriate.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Anaesthetics team for a permanent Consultant in Anaesthesia. The main duties will be in the provision of anaesthesia for the surgical operating theatre suite. As a department we are proud of our high training and educational reputation in the West Midlands.

There is the possibility to negotiate reduced or additional DCC / SPA sessions for those with either additional commitments or talents.

£10,000 Recruitment and Retention Premia (RRP) for successful candidate and removal of expenses up to £8000.

Main duties of the job

1. Daytime clinical anaesthetic duties will be undertaken in the theatre suite but may also include obstetrics, ECT, cardioversion or thoracoscopy which are outside the main suite. As a DGH we cover a wide range of specialties including elective paediatrics over the age of 2. The overnight and weekend on call is a 1:12 rota which covers critical care, theatres and maternity.2. The appointee will take part in regular Departmental, Academic and Audit meetings.3. The post-holder would be expected to participate in Continuing Medical Education to the level required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists / IBTICM as appropriate to the individual post-holders.4. The post holder is expected to be familiar with and adhere to the Trust's policies on Clinical Governance, Confidentiality and Infection Control.

Person Specification
Eductaion & Qualifications
  • Full doctors GMC Registration Licence to practise
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attainment of Specialist Registration in Anaesthesia on day of interview
Experience and Knowledge
  • Proven experience as a generalist in provision of Anaesthesia
  • Widespread broad based knowledge in all aspects of Critical Care & Anaesthesia
  • Practical skills commensurate with the above
  • Higher training or equivalent in ITU or Obstetric anaesthesia
  • Educational Supervisor
  • ALS/ATLS/ EPLS/ APLS Provider/ Instructor / MRCP
Teaching
  • Commitment and training in medical education
  • Ability to teach in clinical settings
  • Proven experience of teaching at under/post graduate levels
  • Peer reviewed publications
Clinical Governance
  • Demonstrate evidence of robust clinical audit practice and the underlying principles of clinical governance
  • Advanced Management Training
