This is an outstanding opportunity for consultants to join our team of 13 Acute Physicians at the Acute Medicine Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The acute medical unit (AMU) in Blackburn was established in 1993 and has been the longest continuously operating AMU in the country.
The post-holder will actively participate in senior overview of the management of all patients in the department, with consultants present on the unit from 8:00 till 20:30 seven days a week. The Consultant Acute Physicians are supported by 6 Acute Specialty Doctors, 9 Advanced Care Practitioners, 3 Physician Associates, as well as 10 rotating junior doctors. There is a supporting medical on-call team attached to the department 24 hours a day. Out-of-hours consultant cover is provided by the on-call medical consultant. Weekend duties are 12 hours in 6 weeks. On-call overnight duties are at a frequency of 1 in 21 weekdays, and 1 in 21 weekends.
The post-holder will participate in quality improvement projects, governance duties, educational activities and departmental meetings, and will undertake administrative duties as required by the Directorate and Divisional Clinical Directors.
The appointment is full-time and there will be a requirement for flexible hours in accordance with service needs as they develop.
