Job summary

Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre Gillingham is seeking a permanent consultant general surgeon to deliver day-case and outpatient elective surgery, including hernia, haemorrhoid and endoscopy procedures, plus pre and post-operative assessments.

The post requires GMC Specialist Register entry and at least 2 years of senior surgical experience, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. The role involves governance activities, service development and education of staff.

Qualifications

• GMC Specialist Register as a General Surgeon.
• At least 2 years' experience after specialist registration.
• Experience in general surgery and elective surgical practice.
• Experience with laparoscopic procedures (hernia repair, cholecystectomy).

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality elective general surgical services.
• Undertake day-case and outpatient procedures.
• Hold outpatient consultations for patients.
• Manage patients requiring hernia repairs and haemorrhoid treatments.
• Perform endoscopy procedures where appropriate.
• Conduct pre- and post-operative patient assessments.
• Maintain clinical records, discharge summaries and reports.
• Participate in audit, governance and quality improvement activities.
• Support clinical quality standards and service development.
• Work with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver patient care.
• Contribute to education and development of staff.

Job description

Permanent consultant post in general surgery at Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre Gillingham, a planned elective service. The work centres on day-case and outpatient general surgery, including hernia, haemorrhoid and endoscopy procedures, plus pre and post-operative assessment. The role is one day a week with no on-call commitment, and includes involvement in clinical governance and service development. Applicants need GMC Specialist Register entry and the right to work in the UK.
