Management structure
The paediatric department is part of the Frimley Health Women's and Children's Directorate.
The Paediatric Unit
Ward 24 has 29 cots/beds for infants, children, and teenagers, with 7 spaces in the Paediatric Assessment Unit. It accepts direct admissions from ED, facilitates elective activity, and the PAU handles direct GP admissions. The unit also manages day cases, ambulatory care, and open access for specific patient groups. Separate areas cater to children with medical conditions, post-surgery, or infectious diseases.
The Neonatal Unit
The Local Neonatal Unit (LNU) has 17 cots for babies born at 27 weeks gestation and above, caring for a range of needs. It collaborates with neonatal transport teams for transfers to NICU if needed.
Paediatric Assessment Unit
The PAU is adjacent to the inpatient ward, staffed by nurses and Resident Doctors under a supervising Consultant. It functions as an SDEC, with 7 beds and typically sees 20-30 children daily. It supports ED flow, handles direct GP referrals, and offers day care, ambulatory care, and open access for certain groups.
