Job summary

The Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS) invites applications for a Consultant Histopathologist to join the team based at the hub laboratory, New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. You will report on cellular pathology across BCPS, covering four trusts and coordinating across sites.

Candidates must have completed Specialist Training and be on the GMC Specialist Register, or have a CCT in Histopathology within six months of interview.

Qualifications

• Be on GMC Specialist Register or have CCT in Histopathology within 6 months of interview.

Responsibilities

• Based at the hub laboratory (New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton) and responsible for cellular pathology material across the BCPS.
• Liaise with four trusts to coordinate reporting and service delivery.
• Contribute to service development and case discussions across sites.

Job description

The BCPS Cellular Pathology service is a fully consolidated service with the hub laboratory at Wolverhampton and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) at the other sites. The only cellular pathology service provided at the ESLs is a frozen section facility. The combined surgical pathology workload for BCPS is anticipated to be approximately 92,000 surgical pathology requests per annum. The successful candidate will be based at the hub laboratory at the New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, but will be responsible for all relevant cellular pathology material for the whole BCPS (from all 4 trusts).

Applicants should have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT or equivalent date in Histopathology within 6 months of the date of interview.

All reporting specialties will be considered however we are looking for candidates who have a keen interest in, Dermatopathology, Gynaecological pathology, Urology, Lung and Hematopathology.

The Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS) has been formed by four Trusts looking to collaborate to optimise the use of resources. These Trusts are: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, (DGFT), The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, (RWT), Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, (SWBH) and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, (WHT).The BCPS provides a comprehensive pathology service to a population of approximately 1.76 million.
