Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a general anaesthetist with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia working at a consultant level across Manchester Foundation Trust. This role will be pivotal in supporting the elective recovery of the Trust as well as providing perioperative medical support post-pandemic. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality patient care, as well as support the wider departmental ambition to become a centre of research excellence.

The posts will be based at Oxford Road Campus, with an expectation to work on the obstetric on-call rota. In addition, there will be an expectation for some element of work to be delivered at other sites within the Trust as well - to be agreed between successful candidates and the department.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Completion of higher training in Anaesthesia should be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
  • Tertiary Level Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Adult Life Support and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support Certification or equivalent
  • A specialist interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia, specifically the anaesthetic management of patients with Adult Congenital Heart Disease
  • A postgraduate qualification in teaching and leadership
Teaching and Audit
  • Teaching medical students
  • Experience of Audit
  • Teaching junior medical staff
  • GMC recognition as an educational supervisor
Academic Achievements, Research & Patient Safety
  • Publication in a peer-reviewed journal, a demonstrable commitment to developing research in the Trust or a record of improving patient safety within previous organisations
  • Postgraduate Research Degree (MD/ PhD or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate a quality improvement project in perioperative medicine or work in this area
  • Demonstrate a regional or national interest in training through a transformational project
Interpersonal Skills

  • Evidence of co-ordination of national level communication project
Other Requirements
  • Full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration)
  • Willing to reside within a distance of 30 minutes of base site
