Job summary

CR Civil Engineering in Loughborough, UK, seeks an experienced Construction Planner to create, maintain, and govern robust programmes supporting highways, water, and rail projects across the Midlands. Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a construction planning role within civil engineering or infrastructure contractor.
  • Strong experience producing and managing programmes for highways, water, and rail projects.
  • Practical experience developing NEC3/4 compliant programmes, aligned to clauses and contractual requirements.
  • Experience supporting compensation events, delay analysis, and change management under NEC contracts.
  • Experience producing tender and preconstruction programmes.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, methodology, and resource planning.

The Role

The Construction Planner is responsible for producing, maintaining, and managing robust construction programmes to support the successful delivery of our project across a variety of sectors including highways, water, and rail projects.

CR Civil Engineering part of the RSK Group are a family run business, based in the Midlands, operating throughout England and Wales. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction Planner to join our team in Loughborough, UK.

Working closely with operational, commercial, and project teams, the Planner will ensure programmes are realistic, clearly communicated, and used as effective management tools throughout the project lifecycle, including preconstruction, delivery and handover.

Main Tasks/Responsibilities
Project Planning & Programme Management
  • Produce, manage, and update detailed construction programmes for live projects using recognised planning software. Including MS Project and Primavera P6
  • Develop and maintain NEC3&4 compliant programmes, ensuring alignment with relevant contract clauses and compensation event requirements.
  • Work with site teams to capture progress, logic changes, and programme impacts in a timely and accurate manner.
NEC Contract Support
  • Support project teams with programme submissions, updates, and assessments in line with NEC3&4 contract requirements.
  • Assist with the identification, assessment, and demonstration of delay and change events through robust programme logic and records.
  • Provide planning input to commercial teams to support early warnings, compensation events, and change control.
Preconstruction & Tender Support
  • Produce tender and outline programmes for the pre-construction team across highways, water, and rail schemes.
  • Work with estimators and bid teams to ensure programmes are aligned with construction methodology, resources, and risk allowances.
  • Support programme reviews and clarifications during tender submissions.
Stakeholder & Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with site, project, commercial, and design teams to ensure programmes reflect actual construction methodology and constraints.
  • Attend project meetings, progress reviews, and planning workshops as required.
  • Clearly communicate programme risks, constraints, and mitigation measures to the wider team.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide regular programme reports, progress updates, and look-ahead schedules to project teams and management.
  • Support continuous improvement in planning processes, standards, and programme quality across the business.
  • Promote the use of programmes as live management tools rather than reporting documents.
Qualifications
Mandatory
  • Relevant construction, engineering, or planning qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3&4 contracts and programme requirements.
Desirable
  • Professional membership or progress towards membership of a relevant body (e.g. planning or engineering discipline).
  • Formal training in recognised planning software.
Experience, Skills And Knowledge

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify programme risk, delay, and mitigation options.
  • Confident communicator able to explain programme logic, risks, and impacts to non-planning stakeholders.
  • Proficient in industry-standard planning software, including MS Project and P6
Desirable
  • Experience working on framework-based or repeat programme environments.
  • Knowledge of possession planning, access constraints, or interface management relevant to rail projects.
  • Experience contributing to programme standards or planning best practice within a business.
