Job description

Consolidation Manager & Technical Accountant

Newcastle upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom

About Atari

Atari is an interactive entertainment company and an iconic gaming industry brand recognized worldwide for its multi-platform games and licensed products. Atari owns and/or manages a portfolio of more than 400 games and franchises, including globally recognized brands such as Asteroids®, Centipede®, Missile Command®, Pong®, and RollerCoaster Tycoon®.

The Atari family of brands includes Digital Eclipse, Nightdive Studios, Infogrames, AtariAge, MobyGames, as well as Coatsink, Early Morning Studios, and Stormteller Games—spanning game development, publishing, and community experiences worldwide.

Atari operates internationally with offices in the US, UK, in France, Germany, Sweden, and India.

Overview

The Consolidation Manager & Technical Accountant will lead the Group’s monthly, quarterly and annual IFRS consolidation process and prepare the consolidated financial statements and supporting disclosures. This is the first dedicated hire for this function and an important role in building a reliable, scalable financial reporting foundation across Atari and its international entities.

Reporting to the CFO, you will own the consolidation process, provide practical technical accounting guidance on complex transactions and make the annual audit cycle more efficient and predictable. You will work across the Group, including teams in Sweden, the UK and the US, and will need to understand both IFRS and US GAAP considerations in a multi-entity, post-acquisition environment.

This role is for an accountant who enjoys the detail but does not stop at identifying what is wrong. You will investigate the issue, explain the accounting, find a workable solution and execute the fix. It is a broad, high-impact role for someone who can move comfortably between consolidation schedules, contracts, accounting papers, audit requests and process improvements.

Consolidation is the core of this role. You will be close to the numbers throughout the reporting cycle, with responsibility for making sure the Group’s financial reporting is accurate, well supported and delivered on time.

You will be expected to operate as a finance generalist with deep technical accounting and consolidation capability. That means being comfortable moving between a detailed contract review, an audit discussion, an acquisition opening balance sheet, a consolidation adjustment and a process redesign. You will work independently, but you will also need to build strong relationships with finance colleagues across the Atari Group and make the work easier for the teams providing the inputs.

What you’ll do
  • Work in conjunction with the Head of Accounting on the monthly, quarterly and annual IFRS consolidation process for the Group, coordinating inputs, eliminations, intercompany balances, foreign exchange and consolidation adjustments.
  • Prepare and review the Group’s consolidated financial statements, supporting schedules and disclosures, ensuring they are accurate, complete and delivered on time.
  • Own the consolidation timetable, working with finance teams across the Group to resolve issues and maintain clear accountability for deliverables.
  • Perform technical accounting analyses for significant or complex transactions, including reviewing contracts and assessing their accounting treatment.
  • Prepare clear accounting position papers that document the relevant facts, analysis, conclusions and required actions.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process, acting as the primary interface with auditors and ensuring audit requests are complete, well supported and resolved efficiently.
  • Support acquisitions by coordinating with Head of Accounting opening balance sheet reviews and the integration of acquired entities into the Group consolidation process.
  • Maintain Group accounting policies and support their consistent application across entities, including where IFRS and / or US GAAP considerations need to be assessed.
  • Identify weaknesses or inefficiencies in consolidation, reporting and financial close processes, then design and implement practical improvements.
  • Build repeatable processes, documentation and controls that reduce manual effort, improve the quality of reporting and make the audit cycle easier for the wider Finance team.
  • Act as a trusted technical accounting partner to Finance, Legal, business leaders and entity-level finance teams across the Group.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Professional accounting qualification or equivalent experience, such as ACA, ACCA, CPA or a comparable qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading group consolidations and preparing consolidated financial statements under IFRS.
  • Strong technical accounting experience, including the ability to review contracts, assess complex transactions and prepare well-reasoned accounting position papers.
  • Experience managing an external audit cycle and acting as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Experience working in, or closely supporting, a publicly traded company or another environment with rigorous financial reporting and control requirements.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, or the ability to assess and explain the relevant differences between IFRS and US GAAP in practice.
  • A practical, solutions-oriented approach: able to identify what is wrong, determine why it happened, recommend how to fix it and follow through on implementation.
Nice to have / Preferred
  • Experience with purchase price accounting, opening balance sheet reviews and post-acquisition integration.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, international group with operations across different currencies and jurisdictions.
  • Experience in media, entertainment, technology or video games.
  • Experience improving consolidation tools, financial close processes, reporting systems or internal controls.
  • Big Four training or experience, particularly where followed by hands-on experience in a publicly traded or similarly complex company.
What we offer

This is an opportunity to establish and own a core Group finance capability at an international games company. You will work across Sweden, the UK and the US, partnering with teams across the Group and helping shape how consolidation, technical accounting, acquisitions and external reporting operate as Atari continues to integrate its businesses.

As the first dedicated hire for this function, you will have meaningful ownership from the outset and the opportunity to build processes that are both technically robust and practical for the teams using them.

  • Alongside that, we offer flexible hours, enhanced holiday, company sick pay, pension enrolment, and annual pay reviews.
  • You’ll also benefit from enhanced maternity and paternity leave, dependants leave, career breaks, and bi-annual appraisals.
  • Additional benefits include life insurance, a health cash plan, and mental health support through Saldo, plus metro pass and cycle schemes, in-person and virtual events, access to previously released titles, and the chance to work with cutting-edge technology.
