Job summary

Viper Applied Science seeks a Computational Scientist to join a small technical team in Aberdour, Scotland. You will develop new numerical methods and translate research ideas into production software used by customers worldwide.

The role sits at the intersection of computational science and software engineering. You should have a strong background in numerical modelling, with experience in C++/Fortran and modern HPC tools, and enjoy turning theory into practical tools.

Qualifications

Master's degree, PhD or equivalent in engineering, physics, applied mathematics or related discipline.
Strong background in numerical modelling, scientific computing or computational engineering.
Programming experience in C++, Fortran or a similar compiled language.
Experience implementing or developing numerical algorithms.
Ability to analyse computational results and understand the underlying physics; able to work independently.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement numerical algorithms for modelling extreme events and structural loading.
Work with methods including CFD, finite element and/or meshless approaches.
Develop high-performance implementations using CUDA, OpenMP and MPI.
Write maintainable scientific software in languages such as C++, Fortran and Python.
Verify and validate new numerical methods against analytical, experimental and published data.
Document algorithms and software functionality clearly.
Work closely with the wider Viper team to develop and release new capabilities.
Provide technical input and support to customers using our software.
