Job summary

Solutions Limited in Exeter is seeking a Composite Team Lead to manage a dedicated team of engineers and technicians in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will balance people management with hands-on testing, planning daily workloads across static, fatigue, and thermal analysis equipment, and acting as the technical focal point for composite testing and data reporting.

The role requires leadership in non-metallic and composite testing, ensuring compliance with ISO and ASTM standards,

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Hands-on experience with non-metallic or composite materials testing.
• Experience leading a technical team in a testing/manufacturing environment.
• Strong planning and organizational skills to manage workloads and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and organize a team of engineers and technicians in a fast-paced laboratory.
• Plan, schedule, and allocate daily testing workloads across static, fatigue, and thermal analysis equipment.
• Act as the technical focal point for complex composite testing and data reporting.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/ASTM standards and maintain client reporting accuracy.

• Salary & Benefits: £40,000 – £55,000 Base Salary + Healthcare Package + Life Assurance + 21 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays




• Days & Hours: Monday to Friday (Days)




• Location: Exeter area (Commutable from Exeter, Honiton, Taunton, Sidmouth, Tiverton, Exmouth)

You will lead, mentor, and organize a dedicated team of engineers and technicians within a fast‑paced laboratory environment. Balancing people management with operational delivery, you will plan, schedule, and allocate daily testing workloads across static, fatigue, and thermal analysis equipment. You will act as the key technical focal point, supporting the team with complex non‑metallic and composite testing, ensuring full compliance with international standards (BS EN ISO, ASTM), and overseeing accuracy in test data collection and client reporting.

Key Role Highlights

• Act as the technical authority for complex composite testing, failure analysis, and compliance with international standards (ISO, ASTM).

Requirements

• Degree qualified (minimum) in Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent hands‑on industrial testing background).




• Proven background in non‑metallic or composite materials testing (strong preference for hands‑on composite structures experience).




• Demonstrable leadership, supervisory, or team‑leading experience within a technical testing or manufacturing environment (deputising experience considered).




• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage workloads, handle changing operational priorities, and drive high technical standards.
