Job summary

Gold Group Ltd is seeking a Composite Structures Engineer in Portsmouth to lead FEA-driven assessments of submarine propulsors. You will develop and review FEA models, technical reports and drawings, ensuring design integrity and regulatory compliance.

The role requires leading multidisciplinary teams, deep understanding of structural engineering principles, and experience with maritime or civil codes. Proficiency in Abaqus and CAD is essential, with a BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience in FEA of structures and systems.
  • Proficiency in FEA software (Abaqus).

  • BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Job Title: Composite Structures Engineer

Location: Portsmouth

IR35: Inside

Term: 6 Months

Security Clearance: SC to start

Key Skills: Composites engineering, Structural verification and validation, Composite-to-metal interfaces, Structural design codes (Maritime/Civil), Mechanical/Structural analysis, FEA / Structural simulation

About Us:

In this pivotal role, you will use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model and assess the structural response of submarine propulsors under quasi-static and dynamic conditions. You will develop and review FEA models, technical reports, and design documentation, and approve work packages and drawings.

The Role:

So, what will you be doing as a Composite Structures Engineer?

  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities, applying technical expertise and sound judgement to deliver projects within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and share expertise with engineering teams to build capability.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and ensure compliance with relevant processes and standards.
  • Engage with partners and stakeholders to develop joint technical approaches, support business development, and represent the team in forums and customer meetings.
  • Ensure safe project delivery, identifying hazards and providing options to reduce risk to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Apply governance consistently across technical programmes and act as a peer or independent reviewer where appropriate.

What are we looking for in our next Composite Structures Engineer?

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
  • Substantial experience of structural design to recognised codes of practice (Maritime or Civil).
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis of structures and systems.
  • Proficiency in FEA software (ideally Abaqus).
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • BEng / MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
