Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking Component Design Engineers for roles in Derby and Bristol. You will deliver design solutions for components and complex assemblies, ensuring safety, quality and robustness across the lifecycle.

Work with manufacturing, analysis, and project teams to drive improvements. The role involves developing and maintaining engineering definitions, models, and documentation, with emphasis on Design for Manufacture and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Design Engineer in regulated industries (Aerospace/Defense/Nuclear/Automotive/Energy).
• Solid understanding of mechanical design principles and methods.
• Experience designing components, assemblies, or systems in complex environments.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DfM).

• Deliver design solutions for components and complex assemblies with safety, quality, manufacturability, and robustness in mind.
• Produce and maintain engineering definitions, models, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, analysis, project and customer teams to deliver engineering solutions.
• Support product lifecycle activities, including design updates, verification, validation, and in-service investigations.
• Evaluate operational performance and reliability data to drive product improvements.
• Support technology development programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and maintain engineering methods, standards, tools, and best practice guidance.
• Capture and apply lessons learned throughout the design lifecycle.

Purpose of the role:

As a Component Design Engineer you will:

• Experience as a Design Engineer within a highly regulated industry such as Aerospace, Defence, Nuclear, Automotive, or Energy.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and methodologies.
• Experience designing components, assemblies, or systems within a complex engineering environment.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
