Ready to own product compliance for an entire own-brand appliance range?
Want the authority to stop a launch when the evidence doesn't stack up?
Do you know UKCA/CE, EMC and Ecodesign well enough to challenge suppliers on them?
MacGregor Black is partnering with a leading consumer electronics player on the search for a Compliance Manager – MDA.
This business is growing a portfolio of exclusive own-brand appliances, sold through a network of retailers. As the range expands, the Compliance Manager will build and run the product compliance and technical governance framework behind it, ensuring every product is safe, tested and fit for sale in the UK and EU. You will own the product approval process and carry real authority to halt a launch where the evidence is not there.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and manage the end-to-end product compliance framework for the own-brand portfolio, including the policies, procedures and controls that apply across the product lifecycle
- Own the product approval process, taking products through defined compliance stages from specification to testing, production and final sign-off
- Review product specifications early in development and sourcing to identify regulatory requirements, testing needs and compliance risks
- Assess supplier and manufacturer compliance documentation, including certificates, test reports and Declarations of Conformity
- Instruct and manage accredited test laboratories, agreeing testing scope, reviewing results and coordinating further testing or corrective action
- Conduct or coordinate supplier and factory audits covering manufacturing capability, quality systems, production controls and traceability, with travel across Europe and the Far East
- Establish and manage change-control processes so that changes to specifications, components, materials, factories or processes are approved before implementation
- Maintain complete and accurate Technical Files and compliance records, ready for scrutiny by regulators
- Manage non-conformances through to resolution, working with suppliers and internal teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Establish post-market surveillance using complaints, warranty data and product failures to identify emerging safety and compliance risks
- Act as the principal internal authority on own-brand compliance, advising Buying, Commercial, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Marketing and Product Development teams, and developing guidance and training for them
- Build compliance KPIs, audit programmes and management reporting that give senior leaders clear visibility of approvals, testing, audits and risks
- Ensure compliance is considered in supplier selection, range reviews, new product introductions and direct-sourcing initiatives
- Monitor changes to legislation and technical standards, assess their impact and implement the required changes
- Recommend stop-sale, delayed launch or withdrawal of approval where a product presents unacceptable risk or compliance cannot be evidenced, and advise senior management on significant risks and improvements
