Job summary

JBT Marel UK (Proseal) is seeking a Compliance Engineer to ensure products and engineering activities meet applicable legislation, standards, and customer requirements. You will work with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, and Supply Chain to maintain compliance across the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities include leading risk assessments, coordinating external testing and certifications, maintaining technical files, and guiding internal teams on regulatory matters.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• Experience in a compliance, product safety, quality, or engineering role within manufacturing.
• Strong machinery safety knowledge and risk assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of UKCA, CE Marking, Machinery Regulations, EMC, and electrical safety.
• Ability to interpret technical standards and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing technical documentation and compliance records.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance: ensure equipment complies with legislation, directives, standards and regulations including UKCA/CE marking.
• Maintain compliance documentation and technical files throughout the product lifecycle.
• Lead product risk assessments and hazard analyses embedding compliance in design and manufacturing.
• Standards & Certification: coordinate external testing and certification activities with approved bodies.
• Quality & Continuous Improvement: support audits and implement corrective actions to improve compliance.
• Training & Stakeholder Support: provide guidance on compliance to engineering and operations teams.

Job Title: Compliance Engineer

Reporting To: Machinery Compliance Manager

Location: JBT Marel UK (Proseal)

Shift Pattern / Working Hours

Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day and two paid 15-minute breaks. A total of 39 hours per week.

Purpose

The Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring Proseal products, systems, and engineering activities comply with applicable legislation, industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality processes. Working closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, and external certification bodies, the role supports product development and lifecycle management while promoting compliance, safety, and regulatory excellence across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure all equipment and engineering solutions comply with applicable legislation, directives, standards, and regulations, including but not limited to:

• Machinery Regulations / Machinery Directive
• UKCA and CE Marking requirements
• Electrical Safety Standards
• Low Voltage Directive
• Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements
• Functional Safety standards
• PUWER and relevant HSE guidance

• Maintain compliance documentation and technical files throughout the product lifecycle.
• Monitor regulatory developments, assess impacts, and recommend appropriate actions.

Product Compliance & Risk Management

• Lead product risk assessments and hazard analyses, ensuring compliance requirements are embedded throughout the design and manufacturing process.
• Manage and maintain compliance-related engineering documentation used to test and certify products in manufacture.
• Support regional business units where product manufacturing is outside of the primary business unit
• Assist with investigations relating to product safety, customer complaints, and compliance-related incidents.

Standards & Certification

• Coordinate external testing and certification activities with approved bodies and suppliers.
• Support product certification, approvals, and audits.
• Ensure technical files, declarations of conformity, and associated compliance records remain current and accurate.
• Provide compliance guidance for new product introductions and engineering change activities.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Support internal and external audits, addressing compliance risks through effective corrective actions.
• Develop and enhance compliance processes, governance, and best practice standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen safety, compliance, and operational performance.

Training & Stakeholder Support

• Provide guidance and training to engineering and operational teams on compliance requirements.
• Act as a subject matter expert for regulatory and machinery safety matters.
• Support customer and supplier queries relating to product compliance and certification.

Essential Criteria

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in a compliance, product safety, quality, or engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of machinery safety principles and risk assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of UKCA, CE Marking, Machinery Regulations, EMC, and electrical safety requirements.
• Ability to interpret technical standards and regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing technical documentation and compliance records.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience within food processing, food packaging, automation, or capital equipment manufacturing.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
• Understanding of functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061).
• Internal Auditor qualification.
• Experience managing product certification activities with external bodies.
• Understanding of IEC 62443
