Job summary

South Downs Education Trust is seeking a Compliance and Facilities Assistant for Worthing High School (32 hours) with a small allocation at Clapham and Patching Primary School (3 hours). This fixed-term role supports statutory checks, security, alarm management and maintenance across both sites, with training provided.

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent education is required.
  • IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification is desirable.
  • Experience with statutory compliance monitoring in premises or facilities.
  • Caretaking or building services experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation is essential.
  • Experience in safeguarding-sensitive environments is desirable.
  • Experience liaising with contractors is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with statutory compliance checks and record keeping across both schools.
  • Carry out regular statutory compliance checks (fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos management, emergency lighting, firefighting equipment) and maintain logs.
  • Provide premises and facilities support at Worthing High School and the two smaller sites.
  • Provide smaller compliance and premises support at Clapham and Patching Primary School.
  • Undergo training and development as advised by the Community and Facilities Manager.
  • Undertake any additional duty appropriate to the post.

Job description

Compliance and Facilities Assistant

South Downs Education Trust is offering a fixed‑term post for a Compliance and Facilities Assistant. The incumbent will work primarily at Worthing High School (32 hours per week) with a smaller allocation at Clapham and Patching Primary School (3 hours per week) until 31 Aug 2027.

Salary and Hours

FTE £26,403 for a 35‑hour week. Actual salary at 35 hours: £24,976.

Hourly: 35 hrs/week, rotating shift pattern 7 am‑3 pm, 8 am‑4 pm and 11 am‑7 pm.

Reporting Line

Reports to the Community and Facilities Manager (day‑to‑day) and to the Deputy Facilities Director & Lettings Manager for compliance assurance and escalation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with statutory compliance checks and record keeping across both schools.
  • Carry out regular statutory compliance checks covering fire systems, water hygiene, asbestos management, emergency lighting, firefighting equipment and fire doors; maintain up‑to‑date logs.
  • Provide premises and facilities support at Worthing High School – security, opening/closing, alarm management, routine repairs and maintenance, liaising with contractors, setting up rooms, assisting with cleaning and efficient use of resources.
  • Provide smaller compliance and premises support at Clapham and Patching C of E Primary School – statutory checks, log maintenance, opening/closing, alarm management, first aid cover and occasional on‑call commitment.
  • Undergo training and development as advised by the Community and Facilities Manager.
  • Undertake any additional duty appropriate to the post.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Good general education (GCSE/basic vocational or equivalent).
  • Recognised qualification or training in health and safety, compliance or facilities management (e.g. IOSH) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of statutory compliance monitoring in a premises or facilities setting (e.g. fire safety, water hygiene).
  • Experience of caretaking, premises maintenance or building services.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Experience of working in a safeguarding‑sensitive environment.
  • Experience of liaising with contractors (desirable).
Skills and Abilities
  • Competent in minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Accurate compliance log keeping.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload across two sites.
  • Hands‑on practical approach.
  • Full driving licence (travel between WHS and C&P required).
