Job summary

Academics is seeking a compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join SEN schools in the Wirral area. You will support children and young adults with complex needs, enabling access to learning and helping them reach their potential.

Roles may be 1:1 or in small groups in a nurturing classroom. Flexible part-time or full-time opportunities are available, with pay determined by qualifications and experience in line with the client's policy.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a classroom with children/youth with additional needs.
• TA qualification Level 2/3 or equivalent preferred; strong background in care or support also considered.
• Solid understanding of ASD and various learning difficulties; knowledge of phonics and sign language (Makaton/BSL) is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to access learning.
• Help pupils build confidence, independence and life skills in an inclusive classroom.

What We Are Looking For:

In a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant we are looking for:

• Experience: Previous experience working within a classroom setting, particularly with children and young adults who have additional needs.
• Qualifications: A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is ideal, though we also love to hear from experienced candidates with a strong background in care or support work.
• Specialist Knowledge: A solid understanding of Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and various learning difficulties.
• Key Skills: Knowledge of phonics and sign language (such as Makaton or BSL) is highly desirable and will be a wonderful asset in these roles.
• Personal Qualities: A warm, patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
