Job summary

Academics is seeking a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join supportive SEN schools in Wirral. Roles available on a part-time or full-time basis with flexible hours to fit other commitments, helping children and young adults access learning and participate in activities.

You will work 1:1 or in small groups, supporting pupils to build confidence, independence, and essential life skills within a nurturing classroom.

Qualifications

• Experience in a classroom setting with children and young adults who have additional needs.
• Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification ideal; strong background in care welcomed.
• Solid understanding of ASD and learning difficulties.
• Phonics knowledge and sign language (Makaton/BSL) highly desirable.

Responsibilities

What We Are Looking For:

• Experience: Previous experience working within a classroom setting, particularly with children and young adults who have additional needs.
• Qualifications: A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is ideal, though we also love to hear from experienced candidates with a strong background in care or support work.
• Specialist Knowledge: A solid understanding of Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and various learning difficulties.
• Key Skills: Knowledge of phonics and sign language (such as Makaton or BSL) is highly desirable and will be a wonderful asset in these roles.
• Personal Qualities: A warm, patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
