Job summary

Academics are seeking a compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join SEN schools across the Wirral area. Whether you seek flexible part-time work or a longer-term position to build SEN teaching experience, we offer opportunities with supportive teams.

You will work with children and young adults with complex needs, supporting access to learning, and helping them develop confidence and life skills in a caring classroom setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a classroom setting with children/young adults who have additional needs.
• A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.
• Solid understanding of ASD and other learning difficulties.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils to access learning, either 1:1 or in small groups.
• Foster confidence, independence and life skills in a nurturing classroom environment.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement tailored learning plans.
• Create a warm, patient and inclusive atmosphere for students.

What We Are Looking For:

In a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant we are looking for:

• Experience: Previous experience working within a classroom setting, particularly with children and young adults who have additional needs.
• Qualifications: A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is ideal, though we also love to hear from experienced candidates with a strong background in care or support work.
• Specialist Knowledge: A solid understanding of Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and various learning difficulties.
• Key Skills: Knowledge of phonics and sign language (such as Makaton or BSL) is highly desirable and will be a wonderful asset in these roles.
• Personal Qualities: A warm, patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
