Job summary

Electroserv is seeking a CompEx Inspector / Electrician to join its Field Service Team in Manchester. You’ll primarily conduct site inspections and electrical rectifications, ensuring IEC/BS EN 60079 compliance across UK and EU sites.

Role involves occasional shutdown work, instrumentation installation, and travel. The position is field-based with preference for candidates within the M60 corridor.

Qualifications

• Must have ATEX/CompEx inspection experience and report writing.
• Knowledge of IEC/BS EN 60079 standards and area classification.
• Proficient in reading wiring diagrams and reports.
• Proven field-based, safety-conscious problem solver.

Responsibilities

• Perform ATEX/CompEx inspections to IEC/BS EN 60079-17 standards.

About the Role

Electroserv is looking for a CompEx Inspector / Electrician to join its Field Service Team. You’ll mainly carry out site inspections and electrical rectifications, and make sure sites comply with IEC/BS EN 60079 standards. The role involves regular travel across the UK and EU.

Some of your time may go on shutdown work and instrumentation installation across process industries including aerospace, food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, and oil and gas.

The role is field based. Applicants within the M60 are preferred because of where the client base is.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a CompEx Inspector / Electrician, you’ll carry out thorough ATEX/CompEx inspections to IEC/BS EN 60079-17 standards, using area classification drawings and reports to confirm compliance. You’ll record your findings accurately, report risks and non-compliances promptly and clearly, and produce handover documentation after each inspection so stakeholders can take corrective action quickly.

You’ll also carry out electrical rectifications and repairs to industry standards, and install containment and cable systems, working from electrical wiring diagrams. The aim is to reduce downtime and improve operational safety, so you’ll plan your time to deliver inspections and rectifications on schedule and within scope.

The role involves driving to customer sites, including some overnight stays away from home. You’ll work with internal teams and clients to improve site safety and compliance, and help spot recurring issues and suggest improvements to inspection processes or equipment quality.

What You’ll Bring

Qualifications:

• Time-served apprenticeship in electrical, instrumentation or control engineering, with a JIB Gold Card or higher
• C&G 2391, 2391-52, or 2394 and 2395 inspection and testing certification
• A valid safety passport (CCNSG/JIB or equivalent)
• A full driving licence, as the role is fully field based

Skills and experience:

• Proven experience of ATEX/CompEx inspections, producing high-quality reports and achieving safety compliance
• Strong knowledge of BS EN 60079-14 and 17
• Skills in glanding, terminating and installing containment and cable systems
• The ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and area classification reports
• Competence in Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and Microsoft 365 for reporting and documentation
• Previous experience in a service or field-based role
• Willingness to travel across the UK and EU
• Self-motivation, a results focus and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships with customers
